With overwhelming, bipartisan support, Governor Bobby Jindal signed into law two abortion bills during a trip to West Monroe Baptist Church earlier today, stating that the laws will protect women and the life of the unborn.
One of the changes from the new laws will be that doctors who perform abortions will be required to have the to have the ability to admit patients to a hospital within 30 miles of where the procedure was performed and that provides obstetrical and gynecological health care services. It will go in effect on September 1st of this year.
According to the SFGate.com, these new laws ban will potentially close all of Louisiana’s abortion clinics except for two in Shreveport.
The other bill Jindal signed will prohibit people working for abortion providers from distributing health information at Louisiana’s public schools. This will go in effect August 1.
