Over 3500 people owe $5000 or more of past-due child support within Caddo and Bossier parishes, according to the website for the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. 15 owe over $100,000.
The site shows that exactly 861 individuals owe $5,000 or more in past-due child support in Bossier, and a whopping 2874 owe that much or more in Caddo. While many of these parents live outside the state where it is more difficult to collect, the site indicates that most still reside within the area.
The department considers parents delinquent if they are under legal obligation to pay child support and have not made any form of payment within 6 months. That being the case, there may be many more non-custodial parents who owe child support and aren’t listed in the database.
Most astonishing were the sums of a few individuals who owe the most in delinquent child support out of anyone in the area. Just fifteen parents owe almost $2 Million. According to the Department of Children and Family Services, here are the most severe offenders:
