The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center is teaming up with Hope Connections of NWLA and Volunteers of America NWLA to host a homeless outreach event here in Shreveport. The event, called Stand Down for Homelessness, will be held on February 16, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church located at 500 Common Street, and will start at 8 AM.

The primary focus of this event is to help homeless veterans, and others in the community affected by homelessness find meaningful employment and help them navigate legal issues. The organizations will be on site providing various support services.

“The event will offer participants the opportunity to receive services through local employment agencies, interact with employers, medical screenings and assessments, free haircuts, veteran benefit information and a meal,” the VA said in a press release.

The VA and the other participants are clear that the privacy of those seeking helpa t the event will be protected. “No information will be communicated to any person or agency without written consent except in necessary circumstances to avert a crisis,” the VA said.
