Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler has placed SPD Chief Alan Crump on “departmental leave with pay” in the aftermath of a police-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, October 30th.

According to a press release sent by Shreveport Police, the SPD Chief “gave chase to an alleged armed robbery suspect in the Hollywood area.” While in pursuit of the suspect, Chief Crump discharged his firearm. No injuries were reported.

Despite placing him on leave, Mayor Tyler praised Crump by saying “Our Police Chief demonstrated his willingness to actively take part in combatting crime and putting his life on the line alongside his fellow officers.” The Mayor also stated “Policy does not require officers to be placed on departmental leave under such circumstances; however, because he is the head of this department, it is appropriate to take this action to allow for a full and thorough investigation.”

While Chief Crump is on leave, Deputy Chief Bill Goodin will assume command of the police department.
