Several members of local law enforcement gathered today to celebrate the grand opening of the Northwest Louisiana Crime Laboratory.

The lab is the only one of it’s kind in northwest Louisiana, and it houses experts for various disciplines that work together in the pursuit of justice.

According to one source, “The new forensic center will expedite criminal investigations in northern Louisiana, as currently some investigative tests must be sent to facilities across the state, resulting in long delays. The center will serve approximately half the state of Louisiana, around 29 parishes.”

Some of the services offered at the lab include forensic toxicology tests as well as autopsies.

The lab is opening the same day that Shreveport was named 18th of the 25 murder capitals in the United States, beating out both Little Rock and Baton Rouge.
