La’Gregory Burns was found on January 17, 2018, at the 4700 block of Lyba Street with a single gunshot wound to the leg. According to police, when they arrived, Burns told investigators that he had been walking with his girlfriend when a red four-door car stopped next to them, and multiple males inside the vehicle began to make threatening comments at Burns.

The altercation took a violent turn when one of the males inside the vehicle opened fire and hit Burns once in the leg. Unfortunately, Burns could not provide any description of the males inside the car. Police detectives from the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes unit began their investigation. The detectives didn’t have much to go on. However, the did discover some material evidence and video footage of the incident.

According to police, Burns was never involved in a drive-by shooting. Instead, police believe that he accidentally shot himself in the leg while “mishandling his firearm” at his house on the 5100 block of Monkhouse Drive. Police say Burns fabricated the drive-by shooting incident entirely.

Burns, who is also a convicted felon, was arrested by investigators and charged with one count each of Filing a False Police Report and a Fugitive Warrant through Caddo Probation and Parole. A press release from SPD also says that “Other charges are forthcoming.” Burns is currently being held at the Shreveport City Jail
